England captain chasing elusive silverwareLeft Spurs in order to end barren runCan make more history in 2024WHAT HAPPENED?

The England international severed career-long ties with Premier League side Tottenham in the summer of 2023 having found tangible success hard to come by in north London. A €100 million (£85m/$108m) transfer to Germany was supposed to bring a personal barren run to a close.

Kane missed out on Super Cup glory on debut for Bayern and has seen them slip behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga title race. Those two sides will, however, go head-to-head on Saturday, with Kane telling heading into that crunch clash: “I've made it clear that I want to be winning team trophies and that's one of the things that's missing from my career so far. But as always I'm not going to panic, either way I'm going to keep my head down, keep doing my best for the team and hopefully that starts with a good win on Saturday.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Kane has hit 28 goals for Bayern in all competitions, with 24 of those efforts registered in the Bundesliga. He needs 18 more to break Robert Lewandowski’s all-time record for a single campaign, but added on chasing down more history – having already become the club’s leading marksman across a debut season at the Allianz Arena: “I'm always extremely proud to have those sort of records. It's not something I set out to do at the start but once you hear about them and once people are talking about them, it of course means you're doing something really well. If you'd have told me I was going to do that at the start of the year, of course I'd have taken it – so I'm really happy from that sense, but as always, we try and push and try and see how far we can get.”

WHAT NEXT FOR KANE?

Bayern tied Kane to a contract through to 2027 when luring him away from Spurs, so time is still on his side when it comes to landing major honours. He will also get an opportunity to break his international duck this summer when – fitness permitting – he captains England at Euro 2024 in Germany.
